What is Impact Moling?

Impact moling (also called trenchless pipe installation) uses a pneumatically driven moling tool to create an underground bore through the soil between two small excavation pits. The new MDPE water supply pipe is pulled through this bore, meaning:

• No open trench across your drive, garden, path or patio
• Only two small pits — one at the entry point, one at the exit
• Surfaces remain largely intact — minimal reinstatement required
• Suitable for runs under driveways, paths, roads and established landscaping
• Most jobs completed in a single day

When We Can't Mole

Moling needs a clear path through the ground. On a recent job the route from the meter to the house crossed too many existing utilities to mole safely, so we dug the run by hand instead. We laid the new 25mm pipe at 750mm deep, brought it in through an external duct box to avoid disturbing the kitchen, and fully reinstated the ground. We always check the route first and tell you which method we'll use before we quote.

What Does Moling Cost?

Moling itself isn't priced separately. It's part of the fixed price for your supply pipe job. For a standard house supply from the meter to the house, our recent quotes have been £1,600 to £1,650 plus VAT, including valves, reinstatement and certification. Because moling leaves most surfaces untouched, it often saves on reinstatement costs compared with digging a trench across paving or a drive.
